Plant Science (AGRO 131)

How do plants grow using carbon from the air? How have scientists changed plants so they have more desirable traits? How do plant scientists perform experiments to make discoveries about plants? Each week students learn the biology of plants by uncovering the mystery of how plants work from the molecule to the ecosystem level. Students will experience how plant scientists solve these mysteries doing their own simple plant science experiments that require the resources found in a typical kitchen. Students will also report on their discoveries from these experiments in the same way that scientists share their discoveries today. Plant Science students will understand how people who grow plants for a living (or just for fun) use their understanding of plants to solve problems.
