American History to 1877 (HIST 201)
The first half of American History is a survey of history of the United States from the age of discovery through the Civil War with emphasis on political, economic and social problems in the growth of the American nation. Upon completion of this course the student should have a basic knowledge of American history from the emergence of the first people on the continent up to and including the Civil War and Reconstruction. The course textbook, America’s History, will be the primary source of information throughout the semester. There will also be lectures to supplement and expand upon the readings.
