American History to 1877 (HIST 202)
The second half of American History is a comprehensive look at the social, economic, political and military history of the United States, from 1865 to 1990, a period of tremendous growth and change. This course covers an exciting period in American history that is filled with interesting people, events and issues. The course is designed to give the student an understanding of both the historical development of the United States as well as the ability to better understand the problems and issues facing Americans today. This course is divided into three units. The first unit begins with the Reconstruction Period after the Civil War and ends with the beginnings of the Progressive political movement of the early 20th century. The second unit picks up with the onset of WW I and closes with the end of WW II. The third and final unit starts with the postwar Cold War and closes with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Soviet Union that effectively ends the Cold War in 1990.
