Advanced Scholars

Online College Courses for High School Students

Getting Started

Students in the Advanced Scholars program are challenged academically and gain confidence with college coursework before entering their freshman year. Students have the opportunity to jump-start their college career online and earn credit in the comfort of their high school, at a significantly reduced tuition rate.

Student Eligibility
Final recommendation of students to the Advanced Scholars program is up to the high school.

Guidelines to qualify and enroll in the Advanced Scholars program are:
• Complete prerequisite high school coursework with a “B” average or better
• Be a junior or senior or be identified as high-ability
• Hold an overall “B” grade point average
• Have an ACT composite score of 22 or higher (if applicable)
• Have the support of the high school counselor and principal

Application to the Program
Students interested in the Advanced Scholars program should submit all required application materials. Notification of acceptance status will be sent from UNL Office of Admissions by e-mail and mail within 4-5 business days of receipt of application. Students who have been accepted into the program will also receive information on how to enroll in Advanced Scholars courses via e-mail or mail, from the Advanced Scholars program staff.

Upon acceptance, students should select and enroll in courses and familiarize themselves with the online Student Handbook.

“Taking a college class while in high school really helped prepare me for college because it made me realize that college isn’t the 13th grade. I was able to develop study habits and have support from my family, and my high school teachers, along with the course professor. That made preparations for my first test in college much more efficient.”

-Suzy Hammon, former Advanced Scholars student and current UNL student
