Tips

Supporting your student

Parents play an important role in their students’ wellbeing and success as a college student. With the Advanced Scholars program you have a unique opportunity to help your son or daughter get accustomed to college-level work and a university system while still at home. Help them get the most out of this exciting experience by encouraging self-sufficiency and growth both personally and academically. By doing so your son or daughter is more likely to arrive on campus better prepared for life beyond high school.

Tips for Parents:

  • Encourage your student to access the course everyday.

  • Keep in mind that while enrolled in an Advanced Scholars course your son or daughter is considered a college student.

  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and interactions with UNL. This is a great time for students to “practice” the self-reliance they’ll need on-campus.

  • Remember there are many people at UNL to support you and your student. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
